I'm going to leave a short list of some movies and series about technology and also information security that I've seen, I don't know if they are the best references but I think they are quite valid for those who are interested in the subject. No worries about ranking better or worse, it's just a list, let's get to it:
1 - Mr Robot
This I believe is the most well-known series and at the moment I am writing this post it is the most recent success. It tells the story of Elliot, an information security engineer who is a hacker in his spare time, he hacks everyone around him, spies on people's lives, also acts where he works and wants to change the world by taking down large corporations that in his view exploit the society. In my view, it's very close to reality, even with a lot of fantasy, it brings examples of attacks that in theory can be performed in the real world, there are still other details but it's up to you to find out. =)
2 - Zero Days
This is a documentary that I watched some time ago, it talks about the damage that a computer virus can cause and brings back the case of Stuxnet a virus made to attack nuclear plants in Iran, I believe it is the uranium enrichment centrifuges. It's very interesting and good entertainment too, it gives an insight into how technology impacts our lives today and why we talk so much about information security. In my view, the biggest weapon of cybercrime are viruses, I believe that manual invasion are just more isolated cases.
3 - Whoami - No system is safe
This is a good movie too, I found it a bit similar to Mr. Robot. Before Mr. Robot I think it's one of the best movies about hacking, the movie talks about a group of hackers who come together and carry out several attacks, I think it's a German movie and it has a very nice ending.
4 - Operation Takedown
This is an old movie but it's very good, it tells the story of the hacker Kevin Mitnick, it's good and realistic.
5 - Pirates of Silicon Valley
I watched it a long time ago and I don't even remember what it's about exactly, but I remember that I liked it a lot, in that time I didn't have any knowledge about technology.
6 - Imitation game
A very interesting movie tells the story of mathematician Alan Turing, simply the father of computing hehe, and his role in the second world war to decrypt German messages that passed through Enigma.
7 - Hidden Figures
This movie tells the story of some female mathematicians who helped to take man into space. The movie involves technology because it was the beginning of the use of computers to perform calculations and some of these women got involved with it, developing programs.
